Six months into the pandemic things at the park looked nearly “normal”–people were still out jogging, walking, and biking, wearing face coverings. The afternoons could still be crowded so I took that as motivation to continue to get out early in the morning. Fall migration gets into full swing in September and the birds moved through just as any other year.
California experienced its worst wildfires on record in 2020. In mid-September, haze from the west coast caused several days of thick haze on much of the east coast. An image I took of a Great Blue Heron initially looks as if it could be against a full moon, but it’s the sun through the haze, well after sunrise.
