Great Egret

Great Egret

Fall is a great time to see wading birds of all shapes and sizes; this Great Egret is certainly on the “large” end of the spectrum. They are regular summer residents in the Meadowlands, but come the fall migration larger groups can be seen. The Meadowlands Environment Center building has a railing (recently replaced after being destroyed during Hurricane Sandy) that’s a magnet for Great Egrets; here one rests late in the afternoon.
